She discovered a huge variety of lichen with colors ranging from greens to vibrant oranges growing on the volcanic rocks. This piece uses techniques, such as crochet, weaving, and needle felting to recreate the organic shapes and create a sense of growth like that lichen. These techniques build depth to create that same richness of texture and subtle color variations
